SEVEN
LEGENDARY
COMBINATIONS

A Combo-Day works for any two people. It does not ask whether they ever met, whether they liked each other, or whether they were even in the same line of work. It only needs two birthdays.

Which means you can point it at absolutely anyone. So we did. Below are seven pairings we could not resist, with the real dates their combined ages cross a milestone — every one calculated the same way the site calculates yours.

A note on the ones who are no longer with us. Several people here have died. Their combined totals are worked out as if both had lived — a commemorative what-if rather than a real anniversary. We have included them because the dates are lovely, and because remembering people on a day that belongs to them feels like a decent enough reason to raise a glass.

1. THE ULTIMATE QUEEN DAY

QUEEN DAY
QUEEN × QUEEN

Freddie Mercury & Queen Elizabeth II

Born 5 September 1946 · Born 21 April 1926

200

28 June 2036

A Saturday

Two entirely different kinds of British royalty, and their combined 200th falls on a Saturday — which is either a coincidence or the single most convenient thing this calculator has ever produced. Their 175th passed on 28 December 2023.

The joke writes itself and we refuse to apologise for it. One reigned for seventy years; the other crowned himself on a stage at Wembley and got away with it. Between them they define a very specific idea of Britain — one all restraint and duty, the other all sequins and four octaves.

A Saturday in late June, in 2036. If you are the sort of person who plans a decade ahead, that is your fancy dress party sorted.

2. THE ULTIMATE POP CELEBRATION

POP DAY
POP × POP

Harry Styles & Taylor Swift

Born 1 February 1994 · Born 13 December 1989

75

8 July 2029

A Sunday

The nearest milestone on this entire list, and a rare pairing where both are very much alive to attend. Their combined 100th comes later, on 7 January 2042.

Two of the most-followed people on the planet, whose combined age quietly ticked past 69 this year. Their 75th is a Sunday in July 2029 — genuinely close enough to plan for.

There is something quite nice about the fact that the number does not care about album sales or stadium tours. It just counts the days, exactly as it does for everyone else.

3. THE ALTERNATIVE LAUGHING DAY

LAUGHING DAY
CHAOS × DEADPAN

Robin Williams & Jimmy Carr

Born 21 July 1951 · Born 15 September 1972

150

16 February 2037

A Monday

Two comedians who could not be less alike in delivery. A Monday in February is a bleak slot for a party, which feels like precisely the right day to make people laugh.

Williams was pure improvised chaos — a man who could not be scripted and did not want to be. Carr is the exact opposite: every syllable placed, the pause measured to the millisecond, then the punchline lands like a trapdoor.

Put them together and you get the whole range of what stand-up can be. Their combined 150th lands on 16 February 2037, in the gloomiest stretch of the British calendar. Frankly, that is when a laughing day is most needed.

4. THE LAST BEATLES DAY

BEATLES DAY
LIVERPOOL × LIVERPOOL

Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr

Born 18 June 1942 · Born 7 July 1940

175

27 December 2028

A Wednesday

The two surviving Beatles, with a combined total already past 170. Their 200th would fall on 27 June 2041.

Of all the pairings here, this is the one with the most shared history — a decade in the same four-piece, and sixty years of being asked about it since.

Their combined 175th falls in that strange flat week between Christmas and New Year, when nobody knows what day it is and everyone is looking for something to do. Perfect.

5. THE NATIONAL TREASURE DAY

TREASURE DAY
BROADCASTING × STAGE

David Attenborough & Judi Dench

Born 8 May 1926 · Born 9 December 1934

200

23 August 2030

A Friday

Possibly the two most beloved voices in Britain. A combined 200 is a genuinely enormous number, and it arrives on a Friday in August — ideal for a long weekend.

One narrated the natural world to roughly everybody alive. The other has been quietly stealing scenes on stage and screen since the 1950s. Between them they have earned a bank holiday, but a Friday in August will do.

6. THE COUNTRY LEGENDS DAY

COUNTRY DAY
NASHVILLE × TEXAS

Dolly Parton & Willie Nelson

Born 19 January 1946 · Born 29 April 1933

175

10 March 2027

A Wednesday

The soonest date on this list — under six months away. If you want to test a Combo-Day theory in the near future, this is the one.

Two songwriters who between them have written a frightening proportion of the American songbook. Their combined 175th arrives on 10 March 2027, which makes it the most immediately actionable entry here.

Someone should throw this party. We are not going to organise it, but someone should.

7. THE FRY AND LAURIE DAY

FRY & LAURIE DAY
CAMBRIDGE × CAMBRIDGE

Stephen Fry & Hugh Laurie

Born 24 August 1957 · Born 11 June 1959

150

18 July 2033

A Monday

A double act that began at the Cambridge Footlights and never entirely stopped. Their combined 150th falls in the middle of July 2033.

The rare pairing on this list who actually are a pairing. They met at university, wrote sketches together, and have spent forty years being the reason a particular sort of British comedy sounds the way it does.

THE POINT OF ALL THIS

None of these people will mark these dates. That is fine — they are illustrations, not invitations.

What they show is that the date exists whether or not anyone notices it. It has been true of every pair of people who ever lived. It is true of you and your oldest friend right now: there is a specific day, already fixed, already findable, when your combined ages cross a round number.

The only difference between your date and Freddie and the Queen’s is that yours is one you can actually turn up to.

FIND YOURS

Two birthdays. One date. Nobody else shares it.
